Forum Master Joined: 06:51:18 Messages: 5017 Location: ourWorld Nucleus Offline I'm sure that this comes as no surprise to any of you, but there will come a time in some players oW life where they find themselves asking the questions shown above in this topic title. I was hacked?!
What happens next? Will my items be replaced? What should I do? In the past our answer would vary from player to player based on whether or not you were a paying customer. As much as we would love to help each and every one of you with everything. We just don't have that kind of man power and we need to make tough choices when it comes to time consuming reports such as hack-related incidents and claims. Non-paying customers or players who have never made a purchase during their time on oW would not be eligible for an investigation, nor would they qualify for item replacement.
What that means is that we would attempt to recover the account itself (returning access to the original owner who reported the account as having been compromised and insuring their security information was reset/re-written) but not any of the items/coins/gems that may have been taken while the account was out of their control. The process of investigating a hacked account can take as little as 2 days or as long as 2 months depending on the severity of the crime and the incidents that follow- that is why non-paying customers were not given the opportunity, we are forced to prioritize our paying players.
Now, if a paying customer or subscribed member of the game reported such an issue, our previous procedure would include asking them a few questions and launching an investigation afterwards. In doing so, we would secure the account in the same manner we would for any other player, only this time, the items or currency they lost would be replaced so long as we can see evidence that the account was accessed by someone other than themselves.
If the account does not appear compromised nothing would be returned, paying player or not. That is how we have done things for years. Unfortunately, this isn't something we'll be offering any longer. Item replacement is no longer a service we offer, paying customer or not.
No player is eligible for item replacement as a result of a 'hack'. If your account is compromised then we will do everything in our power to help you secure it and make sure that the rightful owner regains access- however, anything that is lost while that account is out of your control is gone and will not be replaced following an investigation. Before I go into why it is this policy is being removed, I will recap existing 'Hacked!' Topics as they will be deleted/locked and replaced with this one once this post goes live, as this will be the main/official source for all things hack-related (points that have changed over the years will be added in colored text to correct the outdated post). Wylde wrote: Hacked! How did this happen? The only way another player can access your ourWorld account is if they have your Login Email and password.
Here are the most common ways your Login information can end up in somebody else’s control:. You have provided the information to another person (maybe in the game, maybe in real life, maybe through IM, chat, or Email.). Somebody you have provided your info to has shared it with one or more other people.
Somebody with your Login Email address has managed to guess your password. You have entered your Login information to a website designed to steal that information. (These sites usually make false promises in exchange for your info.
This is known as phishing.). Somebody with your Verified Email address either has or has guessed its password, and has access to it.If your account is linked to Facebook, anyone with access to your Facebook account can also access your ourWorld account. Somebody is on my account. If somebody has your ourWorld password, but nothing else, all you need to do to secure your account is change your password.
As it’s clear the ‘hacker’ knows your login Email, make sure your new password is something nobody could ever guess. Players with your login information, but nothing else can do a lot of harm, but they they are limited.
Until they change your Verified Email (see below) here are the limits:. They can’t deactivate your account. (account deletion is no longer even possible, nor do we take player requests to do so). They can’t change your password. They can’t sell your items to the store or in the Marketplace. They can’t spend your Gems on Gifts.Limits on Gifts and Selling are based on IP address.
If the account thief lives near you, it’s possible these safeguards will not work. Important: Once a ‘hacker’ is in your account, they may try to change your Verified Email so they can gain complete control of it. Check your Verified Email inbox for Email change notices.
You have two days to cancel a Verified Email change by clicking the ‘cancel’ link provided in the notice we send you. After two days, if you don’t cancel the change, the thief’s Email will replace yours and you will have completely lost control of your account.
I’m locked out of my account! If somebody has changed your account’s password, that means the ‘hacker’ has either gained control of your Verified Email account (bad) or they have changed the Verified Email to something they control (worse.) Your Verified Email hasn’t Changed When you attempt to reset your password, check to see what Email the password change notice is going to. If it’s your Email address, that means the thief has access to it. Before changing your ourWorld password, you should immediately get into your Verifed Email account and change its password.
Once you control your Verified Email account, you’ll also have full control of your ourWorld account as well. Once your Verified Email is secure, you can change your ourWorld password and regain control of your account. If you don’t secure your Email, the thief can (and probably will) just keep changing your password over and over again. Your Verified Email has changed.
If, when you attempt to change your password, the notice is going to a strange Email address, that means the ‘hacker’ has truly taken over your account. You will need to contact ourWorld support ([email protected]) to recover your account. If you can send your request for help from your account’s Login Email or recent Verified Email, we can make the change easily. If you no longer have access to either of those accounts, we will require further evidence that we are dealing with the account’s true owner before we can make any changes. Send us the request and we will send you the details if necessary. If you cannot prove the account is yours, you may have lost it permanently. All of my stuff is gone!
We have expanded our tools allowing Item, Gem, and Coin transactions to be tracked and, in some cases, undone. If you are an ourWorld Customer (i.e. You have purchased Gems or Membership for actual money) we will do what we can to recover lost items. Non-paying customers do NOT get this service.
This sort of recovery is offered once per account only and only if the problem has occurred within the last 2 months (no asking for items stolen years ago, sorry.) We can't guarantee every Item, Gem, and Coin, will be replaced, but we will do what we can to repair a customer's damaged account. (this is where things change: item and currency replacement is no longer a service we offer for anybody, regardless of whether or not you are a paying customer. Account recovery is something we will of course help you with, but not items. The 2 month rule still stands.) If you'd like to read comments and questions posted on Wylde's old 'Hacked! What do I do?' Topic please click link. Keep in mind, some of the Q&A within those posts may be outdated, as the original topic was made several years ago.
Another important topic would be 'Notification - Penalty for requesting Passwords/Accounts' and the full article can be read. Again, keep in mind that some of the comments may be outdated by now. Wylde wrote:Account theft, or 'hacking', continues to be an issue within ourWorld. While there are several ways a so-called hacker could gain access to your account's log-in information, the most common tactic, by far, is asking you for it. Starting now, the first-offense penalty for asking another player for Login Email, Password, or account access (including offers to 'trade' accounts) is a 72 hour final chat deactivation. This includes requests for Email, Facebook, and related ourWorld login information. The second offense is permanent deactivation of your ourWorld account, loss of everything in that account, and deactivation of any and all account found to be related or controlled by that player.
Low level 'free' accounts requesting login information will be deactivated without warning. No exceptions. To protect your ourWorld account:. Keep your ourWorld Login Email and password private. Keep your Facebook login and password private. Keep your Verified Email's password private.
Make sure your passwords are strong enough that nobody can guess them. Do not enter your login information into strange sites, particularly if they promise something in return for that information. There's no such thing as a Gem hack. There's no such thing as a program that will 'hack' ourWorld accounts. There is only your ability to keep your private login information private by being smart about what your passwords are and who you share them with (the correct answer there is NOBODY.) Be smart and the problem of hackers will never apply to you.
Now, in regards to this sudden rule change: If you submitted a ticket for a 'hacked' investigation and you qualified under the previous eligibility (are a paying customer) then you will still get a complete investigation, as we have done in previous years. Any incidents reported after the posting of this topic 8/7/2017 will be regarded in the new manner: no item replacement.
As some of you may remember, about a month ago a topic called 'Wacky new scheme that's going around! It won't end well.' Was posted by myself in the oW Announcements section of the Forum. If you aren't sure what I'm talking about, link will take you to the topic (though, it has since been locked due to the creation of this new, all purpose topic).
Brief as that topic may seem, it is the reason for this new rule. More than half of the players who have reported their accounts stolen over the course of the past 3 months have faked their own hacking and gone to extreme lengths to do so. Given today's technology, it's fairly simple to hide an IP address and make it appear as if you have been hacked when in fact, you have not. While we can still tell who is who, this can only be achieved through very time consuming means- time that we don't have to waste on false reports.

As implied in the title, the endeavor itself isn't going to end well, and this is how: Due to a vast majority of players attempting to abuse the item replacement system we've implemented for so long, the service itself is going to be terminated for everyone. Paying or not, no player is eligible for item replacement, regardless of the circumstances.
We will do everything in our power to recover your account for you, paying customer or not, but anything that is lost while the account is allegedly out of your control will remain MIA. Paying customers will still receive investigations, only now they will be investigations focusing on finding the culprit and seeing that they are dealt with, not replacing the items lost. With that in mind, I would highly advise against attempting to hack yourself, because you will have all your accounts banned as a result. Rather than zeroing in on an IP address we will be using more precise means of identification, and the ban that follows will be far stricter than anything we've ever issued before. Should you attempt to trick us, your punishment will be extreme. You won't ever play this game again, that much we can guarantee. Naturally that goes for anyone who should try to steal another players item, too.
What should you do if you find that your account has been compromised? You should absolutely send in a ticket to or visit our helpdesk in-game if you believe your account was compromised. While we can no longer offer item replacement, we still offer account recovery and we want to insure that your account is in nobodies hands but your own.
We will secure the account regardless of whether or not you are a paying customer. If you are a paying customer, however, you will be given an investigation, similar to what we would offer in the past. However, the focus of the new investigations, as mentioned above, will be to locate the culprit and deal with them. Once you have filed your report and answered the questions we send you, that will be the end of the line- we will not tell you who the culprit was, just know that action will be taken against them, provided you are willing to cooperate and answer the few questions we have for you. Keep in mind, though, that you must make this report within 2 months following the event, same as always.
Once that 2 month window closes we will not launch an investigation and your thief may go unpunished. We want to keep you all as safe as possible. We are sorry this is what it's come to, but for now, until the state of affairs within oW sees some improvement, this is how it's going to be.
Should things change later on this rule may change as well, but for now, item replacement for hacked accounts is no more. Please note: this rule does NOT apply to the 'I sold my item to the store!' Mistake that earns paying customers item replacement, once, per lifetime (restrictions may apply). This most may be edited and added on to over time. When that happens, a notice will be added to the title or the new information will be bold/colored for ease.
Should you have any questions or concerns, feel free to PM me, send a ticket or voice them here. However, this topic is not open for debate or discussion, this rule is not subject to change at this time. This message was edited 1 time. Last update was at 14:59:51. Shy Dolly wrote:It's really sad that the truly hacked people are the ones suffering from the greediness of others. I don't agree with punishing the people who truly do get hacked, but that's not my place to.
I agree with you there will always be greedy people who lie just to get extra of the same items that they already have and that people think it's ok to go around pretending they got hacked by someone when they really didn't. Just last week I have seen a girl In game claiming she was hacked but failed and forgot to mention the name of the hacker and said she lost everything that she had in her inventory for clothes and furniture that she had. Another girl had several accounts in game scamming people with and on one of her accounts she was trying to get people to believe that she's not a scammer one of her friends was also involved making it sound like she's not but people already knew that she is a scammer. And just yesterday on August 9th two girls that I had heard of from someone are currently going around scamming people working together to take items one of them made her bio private and the other tried to hide evidence that she scammed people. Before deleting her comments I saw many people commented on her comment page and getting back at her.
Another person admitted on the scampreventunion crew comment page that she is a scammer and a few minutes later reposted a new comment that she herself should be banned. People will do anything today that they know is wrong many will be caught eventually it's a shame of what people do in stealing other peoples items I know there are younger players and older players who sometimes forget that you should never trust an offer even if it sounds like a great deal.
I also find it shameless that people use their other accounts and do a fake trade and use it as a trap to scam people with and then change their name. I personally don't trade with anyone that I don't know as well I have many great friends that I have traded with and but then you have people who go around that think it's funny to scam. Like last month in July when I was on my girl account I was at my friends condo and one of his friends asked if I wanted to trade with her I had something she liked and she wanted to trade her starry for my item then suddenly as we were about to trade she makes up a lie and says oh my friend wants this item and just leaves me there. I mean honestly I feel like all people have in their heads is money and being richer then the next person and being selfishly greedy and bragging about how virtually rich they are there is more to life then trying to look like you are better then other people. I mean there are people in real life that are less fortunate and in ourworld it's a bunch of people with issues and they come online and act like they're popular and that think they're better then everyone else sometimes I'm like congratulations you're a complete moron it's just pixilated items you are bragging about. But yes it's a shame of all these many things people do everyday don't get me started on the people who think it's funny when they name themselves something extremely inappropriate. So, does locating the culprit only take place if the person hacked is a paying customer? Do people who have never paid get a better security of the account only?
I completely understand that in the past item replacement was guaranteed just for paying customers but I cannot really get it why the culprit will not be taken care of in the case of non-paying customers. Don't you think this might encourage hackers and scammers to target the latter since there are no consequences of what they did? I believe this decision has to do with the amount of hacks reported but now that no items are given back to their owners I can't see any reason to prioritize paying customers above others. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I may just not fully understand the reasons behind this decision. Ooie wrote:We will secure the account regardless of whether or not you are a paying customer. Paying customer or not, you will all receive the same security/recovery protocol.
Sorry if that wasn't clear! My point is, now, that every player is treated equally in this regard. Like Teen Spirit wrote:So if you are trully hacked and expend over 1000 bucks in this game all you will have after the investigation is your account back? (this considering you lost all your items), idk how i feel about this, well, all i can say is never share your personal info in this game, even to your 'bestie' and if you have a fb account linked into this game never access your fb in any other pc, if not yours.
This is a good thing because; Think of the people exploiting the opportunity to get items back. The economy would go berserk if their plan worked out, then all that money you spent, one thousand, two thousand, three thousand, five million would simply be worthless. Once a game heavily based on trading and selling becomes exploited, players that find glitches, scams, tricks, leave developers with no other choices but to either shut the game down, or do a mass refresh on the marketing system.
If somebody were to dupe their vamp teeth, and sell it at a lower price, the market would need to shut down because there are people who spent money to get those vamp teeth, a lot of money. I experienced this exact thing in a game I played (which I no longer play because they banned me twice due to unstable rules, such as giving your items from one account to another). A hacker found an glitch in the system where they were able to create lots of ED tickets: (gold tickets which can be exchanged, or used to save large amounts of gold), then started to give that money out /bfor free/b. That's not far different from this 'Wacky new scheme' that people are attempting at. Because of the glitch found, the game had to erase the ED tickets, and also got rid of other items that were also exploited during that time. So if somebody decided to hack themselves and were to get away with it, they would cause havoc in the game which WILL lead to deletion of expensive items. Obviously you can't hack yourself 30 times and then get your vamps and demons back 30 times, that's fishy, but people who do these things don't ever do it alone.
They do it with their entire discord chat of friends who could care less about breaking the game (I am throwing shade) and ruining the fun for everybody else.
